Investment Criteria

WHEB invests in high-growth potential "Cleantech" companies with a focus on resource efficiency and conservation, across the following sectors:

  • Alternative and renewable energy generation and efficiency
  • Clean industrial processes and products including materials
  • Recycling and waste management
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Water treatment & conservation

We invest from product commercialisation stage through to pre-IPO rounds.

WHEB has a focus on Europe, but is also active in Asia-Pacific and North America with a local venture capital partner.

Investment Criteria

WHEB's core investment criteria are:

Management Highly experienced, competent and cohesive management team.
Stage Close to, or currently generating revenue with proven technology.
IPR Strong, defensible intellectual property rights including patents.
Market Traction Clear evidence of market demand and competitive advantage.
Market Growth Substantial and preferably global addressable market to penetrate rapidly.
Business Model Viable business model, especially the ability to price product competitively against existing non-green products or solutions.
Timescale Potential to grow substantially in value in 3-5 years with exits likely within the same period.

Investment Approach

WHEB actively works with the management of its portfolio companies to provide strategic advice, expertise and industry contacts. This enhances our ability to help entrepreneurs build fast-growing, highly-valued businesses and to maximize our fund investors' returns.

The team's experience, track record and contacts can actively assist management across the following functional disciplines:

  • Setting strategy to maximise market penetration and revenue growth
  • Financial planning, budgeting and performance appraisal
  • Filling out the board with value adding NEDs as well as completing the executive management team
  • Helping on corporate development including, where appropriate, M&A and strategic alliances and high level introductions to corporate partners

Investment Process

WHEB's investment process tends to follow the cycle described in the diagram below. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to over three months, depending on the precise nature of the proposal.

We will ensure that you are kept informed of your company's progress at each stage.

If your proposal passes beyond the first review, your company will be assigned a Partner and an Associate who will work alongside you throughout this process.
