EVAP Environmentals Limited, based in North Yorkshire, UK, is an advanced bioplastic company which has developed a novel bioplastic film, made from majority renewable resources, for packaging fresh produce and varied other applications. EVAP has a unique technology for co-extruding or casting multi-layer bioplastics to create a glossy and clear film which performs as well as oil-based films in high speed vertical form fill and seal packaging machinery. The material is fully compostable and biodegradeable but its key property is a combination of a gas barrier with uniquely high moisture vapour transpiration rate (breathability). These properties provide conditions which enable the extension of shelf life above and beyond incumbent technology, thereby reducing food waste.
